Unit 2

1) I think the word theme means to find out what the whole story is about. I believe that theme has a reason.I think the standard is saying that you need to know the message they’re give off to know the theme.

2) Romanticism is made your imagination or could also be said to be things that are not real. Most of the stories took place in the nature away from the cities because this is where most people lived at the time. I think people really liked theses stories because they look their minds off of everyday things and took their immigrations on trips. People really loved theses stories because they could relate to them . It made it all little more fun to read because the people where jus like me and you. They where not big hero at first it took them time and effort to get there.Rip van winkle is very good example romanticism because it tends to take your imagination on a trip. We all know you cannot sleep for 20 years. He fall asleep and thought it was the next day but it was the next year. As he approached the village he met a number of people, but none"Whom he new, which somewhat surprised him, for he had thought himselfAcquainted with every one in the country round". What they where saying in this part was he went back to town the next day and nothing was the same. The very village was altered; it was larger andmore populous. What they where saying here was that he went back to town it was people he never saw before.

3) This is an example of romanticism because they are talking about you using your imagination. They where talking about nature and death as if they where a real person. For example in thanatopsis William Bryant says, “Go forth under the open sky, and list to nature’s teachings while from all around earth and her waters, and the depths of air comes a still voice.” You can’t really take to nature so you really have to use your imagination for this. In this they are saying you should not be sacred that everyone has to die. They’re celebration nature because this is where it takes place. For example in thanatopsis William Bryant says, “To be brothers to the insensible rock and the rude swalm turns with his share, and treads upon.” What he is saying in this that is you and rocks will be one when you die. No one was better then anyone else that when you die you will all be the same. This was an example of promotion of common people. A good example of this in thanatopsis William Bryant is, “thou salt lie down with patriarchs of the infarct world with kings, the powerful of the earth the wrise, the good, all in one mighty sepulcher.

4)ELAALRL1 The student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence (i.e., examples of diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, plot events and main ideas) in a variety of texts representative of different genres (i.e., poetry, prose [short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography], and drama) and using this evidence as the basis for interpretation.
I meet this because in every story I used evidence. For example, “I would have to say that the native were freer and had many different gods. For example one god was beauty and that if u thinks but this you are running with your daydreams. What they mean by this was beauty is so deep sometimes it can fool you in to believing people are who they are not. The Puritans where much different because they though everyone was going to hell and that gods save who he wants .For example God "saves" those he wishes - only a few are selected for salvation.” John Edwards's said, there is nothing between you and hell but air". Their ideas of gods differ because the Native American has many gods and the puritans have one. One of the ways I see that they would clash would be because the native are very free people and the puritans have a rule for their ways of living.”
ELAALRL2 the student identifies, analyzes, and applies knowledge of theme in a work of American literature and provides evidence from the work to support understanding.
I meet this because you have to know the theme when you are reading a story to know what it is about. For example, “Romanticism is made your imagination or could also be said to be things that are not real. Most of the stories took place in the nature away from the cities because this is where most people lived at the time. I think people really liked theses stories because they look their minds off of everyday things and took their immigrations on trips. People really loved theses stories because we could relate to them .it made it all little more fun to read because the people where jus like me and you. They where not big hero at first it took them time and effort to get there.” ELAALRL3 the student deepens understanding of literary works by relating them to their contemporary context or historical background, as well as to works from other time periods
I meet this because at this time everyone lived in city in to read this it helps them take their minds off every day things. For example, “Rip van winkle is very good example romanticism because it tends to take your imagination on a trip. We all know you cannot sleep 20 years. The very village was altered; it was larger and more populous. What they where saying here was that he went back to town it was people he never saw before

5)They compared nature and the world to humans preferably man and how they worked from day to day. It seems like they felt work is the only way to keep everyday life going easy. I don’t think I really under should this writing. I think that it was a very good piece but it takes using your imagination to get this. What he is saying in this that when you go out into nature your its takes your mind away from everything. He says when he is out there he feel like he is one with god. I think that he is right when he says you need to be by yourself to be one with god. I think that he is doing a little too much when he says to have to go into nature to get all of this. But over all I think it was pretty good. This is a good example of Transcendentalism because they really think that its jus you and god. They believed that if you where to go out into nature that you could talk to god because its jus you and him. They didn’t believe in sin because everyone was good. And that you could talk to god when you go out into nature. An example of this is "standing on the bare ground-my head bathed by the blithe air, and uplifted into infinite space- all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eyeball. I am nothing. I see all."He is sayings his body and everything is gone and he is in the sky and is one with god.

6) Self Reliance: By Ralph Waldo Emerson. The story Self-Reliance is talking about how much work and the thought of trusting no one was taking so seriously. It was trying to get at the way boys where raised up to be men. Working to them is a way to show their strength and manhood, and how their power was. ‘‘A man is relieved and gay when he has put his heart into his work and done his best’. This was a perfect example of how much work meant to them and their everyday life. I think what he was saying was you should go with what your heart is saying because this is what god wants. This is a good example of Transcendentalism. They really think that it’s what god wants you to do. They feel that god wants you to be different. So you should just do what you feel is right. This is a good example because they are going ageist what everybody thinks about you. One example of this is “a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.” What he is saying here is that you are going to look crazy but you shouldn’t care because god is with you.

7) The video was a good example of Transcendentalism because the man was one with nature. He believed that it was just him and god and the animals. Something I thought was very cool was he lived out in the woods for 35 years by himself. An example from the text by Ralph Waldo Emerson is, “to go into solitude, a man needs to retire as much from his chamber as from society.” What he is saying in this is that you should go outside to think and talk to god. Because when you are with people it’s too much going on.

  1. This is nice work, Cornisha. You do an especially good job using direct evidence, and having it blend right into your own thoughts. That is not the easiest thing to do.

    Nice.
